CCN Durham, Launch Event, Friday 26th March

The newest branch of the Christian Creative Network was launched in Durham on Friday 26th March via Zoom. This branch is the northernmost of all the CCN branches so far, and the first one to launch online during the current pandemic. There has already been a lot of interest in this branch, and this looks set to grow as more people join and invite others.

The Durham branch leader is Naomi Marklew, a creative writer who has lived in Durham for the last fourteen years. She first moved to Durham from Bristol to study for an MA and then a PhD in Poetry and has now settled in the city with her husband and two young sons.

Naomi shared about how the Durham branch will provide exciting opportunities for Christian creatives to build community with like-minded people and help to champion creativity amongst the body of Christ in the North East of England.

CCN Director Josie Gamble joined the launch to share the story and vision of CCN and to share about next months plans for launching the Christian Creative Directory and was able to answer specific questions about the network.

The online launch and initial online meets will provide a way for people to reconnect and build relationships after a difficult year in which many have felt isolated and alone. The Facebook group will provide regular inspiration and encouragement to help members as they pursue their creative expressions.

There are also workshops being planned, which will equip people to develop their skills in engaging with the creative community – topics could include: social media skills, brand strategy, growing an online business, writing a blog, time management and professional headshots. Once COVID restrictions are lifted, the branch will be able to start meeting in person and planning events and exhibitions where members can showcase and sell their work.

We are looking forward to making new connections and seeing creative collaborations being born out of this new branch of CCN UK. We’re excited to see how this branch will develop and grow, and about what God is doing amongst Christian creatives in the North East!
